Telephone therapy

Telephone Counselling means I can work with you from anywhere in the UK.

If you decide to book in with me our first appointment is for you to talk about what is bringing you to counselling and what you hope to achieve and also allows me to assess if I am the right person to help you. This also gives you time to decide if you want to work with me.

If you bring a problem that I think would suit a more specialised counsellor/service to your particular issue I will direct you to finding the correct source of support so that you get the best outcome possible.

If, after the consultation, you decide to go ahead with counselling:

  • I offer short term (6-12 sessions) and long term (open ended) counselling. Whichever you decide I encourage you, in the first instance, to commit to working together for an initial period of 6 weeks before realistically evaluating the effectiveness of therapy. This is to allow time to build our relationship and gives time for me to have a clear understanding of what you are bringing to therapy and how I might help you.

  • Regular sessions are 50 minutes and are usually weekly on the same day/time however this can be negotiated if required/appropriate.

  • Sometimes, it might be that you want a one-off session or we only need a few sessions, there is no obligation but 6 is usually a minimum to begin with.

Advantages to phone therapy include:

  • You can have therapy wherever you can create a confidential space, be it at work, a quiet park or at home.

  • No travel time and expenses incurred attending your counselling appointments.

  • Access to a wider selection of therapists across the country.

  • More accessible, for example, to people with disabilities, long term illnesses or who don’t have child care.

  • Some people choose phone therapy as they like to go walking while they talk.

  • No Zoom fatigue.

For these reasons and more, or for people who just want the convenience and comfort of their own home, phone therapy is now becoming a popular alternative to face to face counselling.
